Let’s start by talking a little bit about the article format. While there are tons of articles available to help readers write better stories, one of the main ones that I use in my daily blogging sessions is this one. This article format not only helps me build a unique brand and make more traffic throughout my blog but also makes it easier for readers (your audience) to participate in the story and bring them along with you. In today’s world, we all need to know how many people around us really want to read our stories—they want to share their opinion on what we have written! The best part of this article format is that readers can learn something from each other. While the readers should be able to follow the topic of their article, writing an entire article in this style might not help readers develop as they would if they wrote it in the form in which it appears in most email inboxes. Many times, I try to combine elements of both formats and I’ve found that you can actually get away with it. But when we look at the numbers, we find that about 55% of Americans read articles in the form of emails or social media. So let’s dive into what’s going on in each section.
The first thing I’ll talk about is getting enough followers on your article. People always say different things about writing content-based stories, so don’t go too far with the number of supporters of whatever content you are currently creating. Some writers are lucky enough to receive dozens of organic followers, while others are lucky just to reach 50 thousand on Instagram! But if it looks good, then we’ve no problem waiting for thousands of engagements to pop up as well as making an impression and attracting attention from readers. After all, reading these types of content makes readers feel safe to comment and interact with your story. And when readers become engaged, they can tell that stories like yours matter to them. The next important thing to consider is having a writer’s name attached to your article. A name comes in handy because I’ll always refer the readers to specific websites or Instagram accounts. For instance, on my website where I create quality content, my username is Stephen Jansen. However, on social networks, I will often mention my wife’s last name—I’m still married, that’s why I keep using her full name. Of course, I don’t speak for everyone who writes as I do because some people might be willing to reveal their names in case your article has received thousands of shares via social media. Regardless of whether a reader’s name is important to use when building relationships, don’t use their real identity when building their follower list. Use another name. It’s especially important to avoid revealing personal information in any way, shape, or form of communication. If possible, think carefully before publishing a story. Now onto the juicy stuff. There’s a lot of content out there. From books to podcasts to infographics and more, there’s tons of great news, events, and other types of content. What I believe is that if we use the content as a platform to educate/share ideas and experiences, it can go a long way to grow our following. In terms of growth, stories from trusted sources like Buzzfeed, Instagram Stories, YouTube, and LinkedIn might go a long way. Not only does such content come with high engagement percentages, but they also offer a variety of ways to consume different types of content such as interviews, short videos, GIFs, polls, etc (as discussed in my Instagram Live post). All of this and much more could earn you hundreds, even tens of thousands of supporters—if not thousands! That being said, it doesn’t mean that all news sources are created equal. Some publications like Reddit’s WallStreetBets are notoriously controversial, while others like Medium.com seem just like regular online journalism. Don’t worry. If you’re looking to publish such content, your work won’t be complete without a strong marketing strategy in place.
